Robert Petrie junior was the grandson of George Petrie, provost of Montrose who died in 1627. He married Eva Leijell, the daughter of James Leijell [SSNE 4934] on 14 February 1686. Robert became a burgess of Stockholm on 9 July 1690. His father, also Robert [SSNE 6787], and his brother William operated Hofors bruk.
