James Scott was one of the few Scottish soldiers spared at Kringen in 1612. These men had been unofficially recruited in Scotland between the end of 1611 and early 1612 by Alexander Ramsay[SSNE 230], Robert Kerr, George Hay [SSNE 4236] and George Sinclair[4233]. He and the other survivors were sent to Oslo, then to Copenhagen. After a summary interrogation by Robert Anstruther [SSNE 1472] he was released and sent home
