Alexander Webster was a supercargo aboard a Norwegian ship sailing between Scotland and Bergen in June 1698. A letter from him dated Bergen, 13 June 1698 survives in the National Archives of Scotland and has been published by Smout. It relates to the troubles between himself and the skipper. Webster worked for William Coutts of Montrose
