Text source

Jacob Homodaeus registered as a Swede studying at Oxford in 1632. In his matriculation at Groningen and Uppsala he put his nationality as German and, in fact, he was born in Elbing. The name 'Homo' was used in Scandinavia to refer to the Scottish name of Hume, and perhaps he had Scottish forebears.
