Hans George Campbell was born in 1672 in Ingermanland. He joined the army in 1700. The following year he became a lieutenant with the Savolax Infantry regiment. He was captured at Viborg in 1710 and did not return to Sweden until 1722. That year he left service with a captain's pension.
