Peter Belfrage was born in July 1669 in Hult in Västergotland. He became a sergeant with the Gothenburg Artillery in January 1686, and then an ensign in Båhus fort in 1689. By 1694 he had been promoted to lieutenant, and in March 1700 he became a captain. During this period he made several journeys to Stockholm. Belfrage transferred to the Vestgöta artillery where he eventually served as a lieutenant colonel. In 1716 Belfrage was made commandant of Sundsborg, and left service the following year. He died in Hult on 5 January 1727.
