On 8 August 1576 John Gibson was given permission by King Stephen of Poland to sell his goods to the Polish court, wherever it might be situated. Gibson was also allowed to establish shops or merchant booths for the display of his goods. He and his wife were permitted to sell wine, ale and liquor
