Alexander Murray of Drumdewan was the 3rd son of Sir William Murray of Tullibardine. Murray received his commission as Captain on 19 September 1588, taking charge of a company of 130 men. He served as a Colonel in the Scots-Dutch Brigade from 1594 and was killed at Bommel on 19 May 1599. His regiment consisted of ten companies and in January 1597, Murray's regiment formed part of the army of Prince maurice at the victory of Turnhout. Murray was promoted to Provost marischal on 31 May 1595 and by 1598 received £400 in pay.J.
