CARNEGIE, HANS [SSNE 4832]
Text source
John Carnegie was one of the earliest burgesses of Nylöse, and is subsequently mentioned as being a citizen of Gothenburg from the time the town was founded, 1621, but a burgess only from 1634. Already by 1627, Carnegie was granted the running of four sawmills in the Arboga region of Sweden. His letters show that he was still alive in the late 1640s. He is probably the same as the Hans Carnegie noted in Gothenburg shipping registers as trading with Spain, England and Hamburg out of Gothenburg in 1638. In 1641 he also freighted goods to Scotland and HamburgSwedish Riksarkiv,Biographica Microcard, E01300 3/11, undated letter to Queen Christina in Swedish mentioning Customs officer Henrik Sinclair [SSNE 4688].
