Johan Robert Stuart was the son of another Johan Robert [SSNE 3628], a gentleman of the Swedish bedchamber and one Beata Gyllenanckar. He was born in 1686, younger brother of Gabriel. By December 1704 he was a 'condictor of fortifications'. He left in June 1707 and became a Lieutenant in Henrik Mattias von Senlenberg's German Infantry battalion in 1708. He left that and in August 18 was a captain in Södermanland regiment before eventually ending up in Magnus Steinbeck's army in 1712 (via the Västgöta). In 1710 he had taken part in the Baltic Wars at the battle of Helsingförs and Gadebusch (1712). In 1712 he became adjutant-general. He then became a Lt. Colonel in Foreign Service and died in Zweibrucken unmarriedSwedish Riksarkiv, P. Sondén, Militärachefer i svenska arméen och deras skrivelser; N. Belfrage (ed.), Kungl.
