Jacob Huup was born in 1619 in Stralsund of Scottish parents. He served as common soldier and corporal in Colonel Wasilii's regiment for one year and then 'ryttmaster' for two years. In 1641 Jacob became an NCO in the Kalmar Regiment where held the rank of sergeant between 1647 and 1653. By 1654 he had progressed out of the ranks and held the rank of ensign. Two years later he became a lieutenant. Thirteen years passed before his next promotion. In 1669, Huup was made both captain and commandant of Borgholm castle. He was ennobled in 1678 and introduced to the Riddarhus in 1680 under nr.938 and the name Hupenfeldt. Unfortunately he died the following year in Skarebro in Kalmar . Jacob Huup was married twice, but only his second wife´s name is known, Hedvig Gotsche. He had two sons, Alexander and Jacob who both became soldiers in the Kalmar regiment. His daughter, Hedvig Catharina was born in Kalmar in 1653 and later married Emanuel Ornflycht.
