Thomas Reid studied first at the college of Douai in France in 1605. As 'Aberdonensis' he matriculated at the University of Rostock in 1608 and thereafter moved to Danzig after 1621. He also took on the role of Latin Secretary to James VI and I. Reid was also a poet and philosopher, and founder of the first public reference library in Scotland (in Aberdeen). He sometimes helped Sir James Spens [SSNE 1642] with his Latin correspondence.
