George Liddel was a ship's lieutenant and served with the Swedish navy in Wismar between 1643-5. In 1644 he served aboard "Svardet" though later commanded "Nya Fortuna". He was at the battle of Femarn on 13/10/1644 and captured the Danish ship "Oldenburg" obliging Vice Admiral Stenzel von Jasmund to surrender. He was also shot through both thighs accidentally by a Swedish soldier from the ship "Svannen" for which exploits he received reward money in February 1650, the year he is said to have died. Letters by another Joran Lydell mentioning a Captain of the same name survive from 1660.
