Paul Stirling was a Scotsman who served as an interpreter at the Russian court during the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He was born in Danzig of Scots parents. In 1589 he was captured by the Russians in Livonia. On release he became interpreter to the Tsar. In 1615-6 he was assigned to Dutch envoys who commended his skill and conduct.
