In 1661 Alexander Langdale was with William Airth and other Scots who left Swedish service for Russia on the advice of Patrick Gordon. He was first a major, then a lieutenant colonel in Gordon's dragoon regiment. He was killed by a Turkish bomb during the defence of Chigirin.W. Barnhill and P.
