Mary Hamilton was a lady in waiting to Catherine, Peter the Great's wife. She became mistress of Peter's aide and possibly of the Tsar himself, but was beheaded in St Petersburg for murdering her child. Her story strangely resembles the Scots ballad, "Queen's Marie".

D. Fedosov, The Caledonian Connection (Aberdeen, 1996). Female.
