Henry Leijel (1627-1710) from Scotland was the son of Patrick Leijel of Arbroath. He arrived in Sweden with his brothers James [SSNE 4934], Adam [SSNE 6493] and David [SSNE 824] in 1638. Henry became involved in finance and a creditor of the Swedish Privy Councillor, Bengt Horn. Henry married Judit Rokes (1647-1705) and with her had sons, Henry ([SSNE 2131] or [SSNE 3725]), Balthasar [SSNE 1051] and Adam [SSNE 3772]. Adam went to Uppsala University in 1679 and was later ennobled in 1719. There is also a record of a daughter, Emerentia Leijel [SSNE 7437].

The Arbroath brothers became important factory owners in Alvkarled, Rockhammar, Gottbohl (in Ununge Parish) and Harnas. James also had some financial transactions with the Momma-Reenstierna family in Sweden. The brothers also engaged in the Swedish iron trade, Jacob exporting 55,290 shipounds and David 12,706 shipounds between 1651-60, making them together the third largest exporter of the commodity from Sweden (behind the Momma-Reenstierna brothers and Abraham Bex). They also co-operated with Adam Raddou, the forth largest exporter who was Jacob Leijel's brother-in-law (adding his exports, the kin group of Leijel and Raddou exported the largest amount of iron, 130,000 ship pounds). The family partership also saw Raddou and Jacob lease all the Crown's forges and mines in the district of Nora and Linde during the 1660s. A fourth Leijel brother, Adam [SSNE 6493] who was active in the Eastland Company also migrated to Sweden and became a burgess of Stockholm in 1670 and a business associate of Henry's. The Klara Kyrka records show that Henry buried a son in 1697 and his wife in 1705. He was buried there himself on 17 June 1710.
