In 1630, Bryan Stapleton acted as a reformed lieutenant with George Crawford's [SSNE 2086] regiment in 1630. By 1637 he acted as the regimental quartermaster. In a letter dated 28 June 1639 from Hamburg, this officer signed a testmonial that arms bought by Sir Thomas Roe [SSNE 4421] were serviceable and fit for service by Charles I. Stapleton soon after transferred as regimental quartermaster to the Jonkoping regiment in 1641 where he became captain by 1646. Given that he does not appear to have left Swedish service, it is probable that he was only passing through Hamburg in 1639 and he certainly saw out the war in Fleetwood's regiment.
