Captains Hugh Kendrick, Thomas Chamberlain [SSNE 1948], John Craul [SSNE 3075] and Captains Benson, Creyton [SSNE 3844], and York served in Russia in 1609 with an army of over 15000 Swedish, French, Scottish and English mercenaries sent by Charles IX of Sweden at the request of Tsar Vasily Shuisky. One source says he died of head wounds obtained then. There was another Kendrick who was later a captain in Patrick Ruthven's [SSNE 3413] Kronoberg and Kalmar regiment, and captain with Kristoffer Assarsson Mannerskold's regiment from Vastergotland. Arteus identifies Kendrick as an Englishman. These may have been one or two men
