HAMILTON, JAMES [SSNE 2587]
Text source
James Hamilton was first a captain in Swedish service in Alexander Hamilton's regiment until 1630. Then he was in John Hamilton's regiment. This regiment was taken over by Ludovick Leslie [SSNE 396] and served at the battle of Lutzen in 1632. He is probably the same as the captain James/Jochim Hamilton noted in Danish service between 1627-9. However there is also a James Hamilton listed as lieutenant in 1629 taking over command of John Holmes company. This may be the same James Hamilton who as a captain was given 6 months' leave to go to Scotland in 1632 to recruit for the Duke of Weimar's regiment. Cf. [SSNE 2586]

It may have been this man, recorded as a major, who sought 100 pistols for his unit in the Swedish army. See SRP, X, 240. 8 August 1643. He was still alive in the 1650s.
