Johan Forbes joined the Danish-Norwegian army as a reformed lieutenant in Frederikstad in August 1673. He remained there until January 1675 after which he appears to have left service. He re-enlisted in the Statholder's Livregiment Dragoner in which regiment he became promoted to captain. He left service with many other troops in September 1679.
