Tobias Duwall was probably one of Albrecht MacDougal's [SSNE 2444] 9 sons, brother of Mauritz [SSNE 2473] and Jakob [SSNE 1623]. He was first an ensign in Jakob Duwall's Norrland regiment. In 1627 he held the same rank in Lennart Torstensson's Norrland regiment. In 1630 he was lieutenant with Vasterbotten's regiment. Apparently, in December 1636/January 1637, he was quartered as colonel in Schmalkalden (Thuringia) and tried to blackmail 17000 riksdaler (Reichstaler) from the town. In 1647 and 1650 he attended the Riksdag. He appears to have become colonel of a cavalry regiment in the 1640s. He also served as commandant at Altmark in 1642. He may be the same as the Tobias Duwall who was colonel and chief of an "English" (possibly British) recruited infantry regiment in 1650. This man then subsequently went to England in March 1659 to recruit.
