Thomas Drummond was apparently the brother of James Drummond [SSNE 1622]. We have no information on their early lives.
Thomas Drummond served as an ensign in David Drummond's [SSNE 2396] recruited infantry regiment in 1636, the Kalmar Regiment. In 1641 he was still with the Kalmar regiment albeit the David Drummond had died some years earlier. Thomas Drummond became a lieutenant at his brother, James Drummond's request in 1644 and later served at this rank in the Drottning's Regiment in 1648. Note, however, that Elgenstierna gives his rank in 1644 as Lieutenant Captain, though this is not substantiated by the muster rolls.
Thomas died in Fyn in June 1659 while serving in Colonel Gustaf Cruus's regiment (under the overall command of Major General Gustaf Oxenstierna).
It is perhaps this man who deserted a wife, Frances [SSNE 8299], in England. She composed a letter in which she details that she had been married to one 'Captain Thomas Drummond' for four years, albeit that this Thomas Drummond never achieved that rank. The letter was addressed to Lady Axelsson and notes a Scottish general supporting her, possibly Alexander Leslie [SSNE 1] (The Lord General in Scotland). There has, to date, been no other Thomas Drummond located in Swedish service.
The letter sent by Frances Drummond is found here:
