Andrew Stewart was the brother of Sir John, First Earl of Traquair, son of John Stewart the younger of Traquair and Margaret, daughter of Andrew, master of Ochiltree. He was in Danish-Norwegian service in Colonel Donald Mackay's [SSNE 93] regiment from spring 1626 and was wounded in action at Oldenburg September 1627. He re-joined his company at Stralsund in 1628 and was appointed its captain in the autumn of that year. Stewart increased its numbers, and asked that the decision to reform his company should be cancelled. Billeted at Lund winter 1628-9, he served as a member of the court martial in Capt. Alexander Crawford's case on 17/12/1628. Stewart died of a fever at Copenhagen spring 1629
