Nils Curry was first quartermaster with the Båhus-Jämtland cavalry squadron in 1669. He became a corporal there in 1672. He later acteed as a corporal with Jämtland's cavalry company in 1674. In 1677, Curry became a cornett with Anders Planting's cavalry regiment. In 1678 he became lieutenant in Lifregimente till hast. Between 1683-5 he was lieutenant captain there and in 1687 he became master of horse.
