CLERCK, FRANCIS [SSNE 2050]
Text source
Francis Clerk was first a captain in James Spen's regiment before that became George Crawford's in 1630. That year he signed a receipt for monthly wages amounting to 389 rdl on 11 May 1630. Clerck then appears to have transferred to James Seaton's [SSNE 3476] recruited regiment. He is found later as a captain in George Cunningham's [SSNE 2118] recruited regiment, and finally a major in Robert Cunningham's [SSNE 2132] recruited regiment which means that he must have served at the Battle of Wittstock in 1636. .

Caution should be taken with the Viggo Key source as he believes the Earl of Crawford is Alexander Crawford. It is not, it was actually George Lindsay, Earl of Crawford.
