William Buchanan served as an officer in Swedish service from 1628 to 1642.His first role was as an ensign in Alexander Leslie's regiment. served under John Kinnemond's [SSNE 2828] command, and rose to be lieutenant in 1633 and a captain by 1640 during which period he would have served at Wittstock in 1636. Buchanan was based in Stettin from 1640 to 1642 but was killed at the Battle of Leipzig that year
