John Fleming, 6th Lord Fleming, 1st Earl of Wigtown was the son of John Fleming,5th Lord Fleming (died 1572) and consort Elizabeth, daughter of Robert, Master of Ross. From 1587 chief janitor et custos domus et cubiculi regis (gentleman of the bedchamber); He received safe conduct as envoy to Denmark, Mecklenburgh and Braunschweig on 2/10/1590. John was created Earl of Wigtown in 1607, and died 1619. Married Lillian, daughter of John, Earl of Montrose (four sons, six daughters)T.
