Methodology

There were four key parts to this research and publication:

  1. Fieldwork and data collation: The location of every Late Antique church in the Peloponnese was visited in order to find and photograph the church. Most of the churches were successfully found. Others do not exist anymore or have been covered over.
  2. Research and analysis: The database of evidence and images was collated and analysis of the church publications was undertaken. This was carried at the British School at Athens and I am very grateful to the support of the all the staff in the School and Library there.
  3. Creation of the image database and clickable map: this was undertaken by staff at the University of St Andrews and is presented here.
  4. Interpretation of primary data, historical and comparative analysis: this is presented in three forthcoming articles.
