Comment:: Bede or Smaragdus seem the likeliest immediate source for the basic exegesis, despite the reference to Augustine; Bede takes the passage from Jerome (see Hurst's notes in CCSL 120). The nearest 'Augustinian' reference I can find is the Ps-Augustine, Sermo 303 (PL 39, 2327), though there may be a general reference to his De bono coniugali. None of these gives a close parallel to the Aelfric passage as a whole.
