Manuscript:: There is no evidence for MS circulation in England; but nor is there evidence for MS circulation of Einhard's Vita Karoli Magni, which Asser definitely used.
Comment:: Thematic influence is more important than textual; see Tremp 1995. Asser might have learned of Thegan from Frankish scholars at Alfred's court. The Prologue is the work of Walahfrid; it was circulated with the Vita Hludowici.
