Comment:: OE 'ic wæs afyrht' is erroneous: cf. Vulgate 'negauit sara dicens "non risi" timore perterrita'. An explanation for Aelfric's apparent error could be his familiarity a version of version of Augustine's Old Latin in which 'timui' had been written for 'timuit': in at least one manuscript of Quaestiones in Heptateuchum the final 't' of the verb has been deleted.
