  • Note: Victorian commonplace book, the work of Roberta McIntosh. This volume includes:

    1: contributed sketches and written pieces by a number of individuals;

    2: pencil and watercolour sketches by Roberta McIntosh:
    i: a number of McIntosh family members including self-portrait WCM (2) and John McIntosh (their father),
    ii: St Andrews views;
    iii: an individual at Murthly Hospital, Perth;
    iv: the Royal Arms of Scotland;
    v: humorous cartoons, most prominently the noted palaeoicthologist Ramsay H Traquair at the Dura Den (Fife) Fossil Fish dig, c.1860 and a cricket match involving various creatures.

    3: A number of loose items inserted into the volume:
    i: commercially produced photographic images of artwork (albumen prints). Subject matter: christian religious, staged rustic scenes;
    ii: a small quantity of pressed flowers.

    4: A number of items tipped mounted within the front cover of the volume:
    i: Newspaper cuttings;
    ii: part of an autograph letter from Agnes McIntosh (Roberta McIntosh's sister) to Amy Gunther (wife of Roberta McIntosh's son, R W T Gunther);

    5: R W T Gunther mounted bookplates
