Born 22.12.1839 at the Hague eldest son of Eneas, Baron Mackay d’Ophemert (became 10th Lord Reay in succession to his cousin) and Mary Catherine Anne Jacoba, daughter of Baron Fagel.

Career

Rector of the University 1884-1886. [St Andrews University]

Governor of Bombay [Bombay Presidency] 1885-1890. Under Secretary for India 1894-1895.

Succeeded his father as 11th Baron Reay in 1876.

President of the British Academy 1901-1907. [Politician]

His portrait in Rector’s robes by J. H. Lorimer was exhibited at R.S.A. 1886.

Death

Died 1.8.1921.
