Born Edinburgh 7.1.1778 son of Alexander Thomson, postmaster general, Georgia and Mary Elizabeth Spencer. [Uncle of Spencer Thomson M.D. 1840.]

Career

Studied Edinburgh University - medical student 1795-1797, 1798 - 1800. (Said by DNB to be M.D. Edinburgh 1799, but an error).

F.R.C.P.L. 1841.

Practised London from 1800. Professor of Materia Medica, London University (later University College) 1828-1832. Professor of Medical Jurisprudence 1832-1849 (joint until 1837). [Doctor, university professor]

Publications. Editor of the Medical Repository.

Death

Died at Ealing 3.7.1849 aged 71.
