Studied at Upsala under Bergman and Linnaeus - M.D. 14.12.1775. Also at Edinburgh University - medical student 1790-1791.
Professor of Natural Philosophy, St Andrews University 24.11.1795 - 6.11.1804.
Assistant in chemistry to Joseph Black. Engaged in literary work in Edinburgh.
