Studied at Edinburgh University - arts student 1781-1786.
Licensed by Associate presbytery, Edinburgh 1788.
Secession minister Kilmaurs and Stewarton 1789-1797. Kilmaurs 1797 - 1800. Associate Synod Professor of Divinity 1807-1820 (resigned). Joined Associate Synod of Original Seceders. Professor of Divinity and minister Edinburgh 1820 - 9.4.1837 (died). [University professor]
