Birth/childhood
Born 14.11.1856 at Niagara Falls, Ontario son of Godfrey Macdonald, later of Chicago and Mary Blackwell (grandson of Professor William Macdonald).
Career
Stockbroker Chicago and New York. Became an avid golfer and golf course designer. Designed at Wheaton, Chicago the first 18 hole course in the U.S.A. In 1895 became first official amateur champion of the US. Persuaded U.S. golf to accept R & A rules.

Death
Died at Southampton 21.4.1939.
