From Cupar. Son of John Inglis of Colluthie.

Career

Studied chemistry at University, but not in St Andrews class list. Served two years in a solicitor’s office then apprenticed to Mr. J. Carmichael, brewer, Edinburgh. Tried in 1876 to get a post with Bass’s Brewery, Burton on Trent.
