Career
Probably the medical student of the name at Edinburgh University 1773-1774.
Writer on scientific subjects, but controversial - believed in phlogiston and tried to disprove Lavoisier. [Phogiston was believed to be a fire-like element contained in combustible bodies and released during combustion].

Some new experiments, with observations upon heat, clearly showing the erroneous principles of the French theory... (London: T. Cadell, 1798)

Died 1837.
