Born 12.6.1824 son of John Govan, merchant, St Andrews and Ann Clark.

Career

Apprenticed 1838 to his uncle William Smith, chemist, St Andrews. Belonged to Congregational Church. [Chemist]

Made a partner in 1854 after 16 years employment. Succeeded to the business in 1872. Retired 1883.

Moved 1891 to Newport. Interested in photography and assisted Dr John Adamson.

Death

Died at Newport 1.10.1909.
