Born 9.7.1823 son of John Goodsir, surgeon, Anstruther and Elizabeth Taylor. [Doctor]

Career

Studied Edinburgh University - medical student 1845-1849.

Began life in a London banking house, but decided on medicine. Surgeon to a Dundee whaler 1849. Surgeon to ‘Lady Franklin’ 1850-1851, his brother Henry having been assistant surgeon and naturalist on Franklin’s ship ‘Erebus’. Went to Australia seeking gold. Lived in New Zealand, South Sea Islands, Siberia and Russia. Settled in Edinburgh c. 1885. [Doctor]
