Birth/childhood

Born 2.10.1854 at Ballater son of Alexander Geddes, army officer and Janet Stevenson. [Soldier]

Attended Perth Academy.

Career

After a short spell as a bank clerk attended Edinburgh University for 1 week. Studied Royal School of Mines 1874-1876 under T. H. Huxley. University College, London 1877-1878.

Sorbonne 1878-1879.

Professor of Botany, University College Dundee 1888-1914. Actually resigned 31.3.1920, but had not fulfilled duties for some years previously. [St Andrews University] [University professor]
