Birth/childhood

Born 16.1.1792 son of John Chalmers, shipowner and merchant, Anstruther Easter and Elizabeth Hall.

Career

Went to Edinburgh and started publishing business in partnership with William Collins. In 1833 he opened Merchiston Castle School in the running of which he was later assisted by three sons.

Death

Died 12.11.1864.
