Born 25.12.1780 son of David Carstairs, wright, Largo and Margaret Fair. He was a cousin of Sir John Leslie.
Career
Surgeon 92 Foot 1780. Half pay 1783. Agent for 63 Foot 1805 - 1809. Merchant in London. Made money in the East Indies - £7,000 by 1788. [Doctor]
Established fund for mathematics prizes in 1834.

Died 28.12.1837 aged 80 at Stratford Green when he is described as of Warboys and Woodhurst, Hants. [Hampshire].
