Educated Glasgow University - B.A. 1843. Studied for English Bar. D.D. Edinburgh 1864.

Licensed by Ayr presbytery 1850.

Minister at Newton upon Ayr 1851 - 1854. Kirkpatrick Irongray 1854 - 1859. Edinburgh, St Bernard’s 1859 - 1865. St Andrews 1st charge 1865 - 1.3.1899 (died).
