Birth/childhood

Born 17.10.1870 son of William Lindsay Boase, flaxmill spinner, Dundee and Eliza Russell Meldrum.

Attended Fettes College.

Career

Entered father’s business [flaxmill spinner] in 1890 and ultimately became chairman of F. Boase, Modern English Biography...1851-1900. 6v. (Truro, 1892-1921) Spinning Co (1920) Ltd. Became widely known as a golf administrator. Captain R. & A. [The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews?] 1935. Three terms Provost of St Andrews, retiring in 1936.

C.B.E. [Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire] 1919.

Death

Died 7.3.1938 at St Andrews.
