Student United College 1763-1768. (Ternar) Glendee bursar, 1759- must have held it for his grammar school course, but his father was patron! Chancellor’s prize junior mathematics, 1767.

Student St Mary’s College 1768-1773. Tarsappie bursar 1769. 4th cl. Prize, 1773.

Birth/childhood

Born 13.9.1750 son of Alexander Bell, baillie , barber and wigmaker, St Andrews and Margaret Robertson.

Brother of Andrew Bell, United College 1768-1772, founder of the Madras teaching system.

Death

Probably died young as there is but a single early reference to him in Southey’s Life of his brother Andrew.
