Biography

Isidro Reyes started his military career as a soldier in the Royalist Cavalry Regiment of the Sierra Gorda in 1813. He joined the Army of the Three Guarantees in 1821 and participated in Santa Anna's campaign to liberate Perote from Spanish control in October of that year. He held a number of important military and political posts during his lifetime, including those of congressional deputy, commander general of several provinces (Michoacan, Mexico, San Luis Potosi, Monterrey, Puebla), and minister of war (11 June to 23 November 1844). He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1835. He died in Morelia in 1848 following the end of the Mexican-American War.
